About
The Full Story
I’m a sports scientist specialising in force plate data analysis, focused on unlocking neuromuscular performance insights to drive better decision-making in both performance and medical contexts. My goal is to optimise outcomes for athletes and teams by using these insights effectively. I’m also passionate about education and mentorship, empowering practitioners to leverage force plate data for improved performance and rehabilitation.

Early Career: Initial Exposure & Research

My journey in force plate technology began early in my career through a research project, where I first encountered the potential of force plate data. This initial exposure sparked my interest in understanding how neuromuscular performance could be assessed through force plates. Over the years, I have conducted, analysed, and interpreted thousands of assessments for both healthy and injured athletes. This foundational work in research allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of force plate data, as well as the practical challenges that practitioners in elite sport face when integrating and utilising such assessments.

Development of ForceDecks: Bridging the Gap Between Research and Practice

The next pivotal moment in my career came when I realised the need for a practical tool that could help elite practitioners rapidly generate detailed neuromuscular performance data in training environments. This led to the development of ForceDecks, a dual force plate system created in collaboration with Dr Phil Graham-Smith. ForceDecks was designed to bring the benefits of force plate technology out of the research lab and into real-world sports settings, allowing for quick, actionable insights into an athlete’s neuromuscular health.

Since its creation, ForceDecks has become invaluable in helping teams and practitioners integrate advanced force plate assessments into their daily practices. The technology has allowed teams to bridge the gap between research and applied performance, offering tools that help inform decision-making related to both performance enhancement and rehabilitation strategies. VALD bought ForceDecks in 2018.

Applied Research & Global Experience: Working with Elite Sports Organisations

With over 20 years of applied research experience, I have had the privilege of working with elite sports organisations across the globe. My experience spans major professional leagues such as the English Premier League, La Liga, the NBA, the NFL, and the NHL including a chapter in my career where I was supporting five pre-seasons with Arsenal Football Club, where I contributed to their athlete profiling and monitoring efforts.
This extensive work with professional teams and leagues has provided invaluable insights into the practical application of force plate assessments. It also deepened my understanding of how these tools can be used to monitor athlete performance, track recovery, and inform injury prevention strategies. Working closely with performance, strength and conditioning, and medical teams, I’ve learned how force plate assessments can be integrated into the decision-making processes that are essential for elite sport environments.

Consultancy: Tailored Solutions for Teams and Organisations
Building on my experience and knowledge, I transitioned into offering bespoke consultancy services. My consultancy focuses on helping sports teams and organisations maximise the use of force plate assessments. Whether for healthy athletes or those undergoing rehabilitation, I provide tailored solutions and guidance to ensure that these assessments are applied effectively to enhance both performance and recovery outcomes.
The consultancy work has allowed me to collaborate closely with practitioners and sports organisations to develop strategies that leverage force plate data to make informed decisions, optimise athletic performance, and improve rehabilitation processes. This has been an incredibly rewarding aspect of my career, as it allows me to work directly with practitioners and support them in using these powerful tools to solve key performance and rehabilitation challenges.

Education & Mentorship: Empowering Practitioners

Throughout my career, I have been deeply passionate about education and mentorship. I believe in the power of knowledge-sharing and empowering practitioners to use the insights gained from force plate data to improve outcomes for athletes. My mission is to help practitioners and teams leverage these insights, answering crucial questions about performance and rehabilitation for both individual athletes and teams.
This commitment to education has shaped much of my work. I dedicate significant time to mentoring and guiding others, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to use force plate technology to its full potential. By equipping practitioners with the knowledge to integrate these assessments into their practices, I hope to create a broader impact that extends beyond my direct consultancy.

Current Focus: Maximising Neuromuscular Performance Insights

Today, my focus remains on maximising the neuromuscular performance insights that can be derived from force plate data. I continue to help inform decision-making in both performance and medical contexts, ensuring that these insights are applied effectively to optimise outcomes. I remain committed to advancing the use of force plate technology, working with both athletes and teams to improve performance, prevent injury, and guide recovery.
Through my ongoing work, I aim to further contribute to the understanding of how force plate data can be used to enhance athletic performance and recovery processes. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that this technology continues to make a meaningful impact in the world of sports science, helping athletes and practitioners achieve their full potential.
